The efforts of the Badung Regency Government (Pemkab) in protecting and fulfilling children’s rights in a sustainable manner, received appreciation from the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (Kemen-PPPA). The appreciation was conveyed at the 2021 Child Friendly Regency/City (KLA) award ceremony virtually, Thursday (29/7). Badung Regent Nyoman Giri Prasta and Regional Secretary Wayan Adi Arnawa attended the event from the Command Center Room of the Badung Government Center. Badung was named a child-friendly district in the Nindya category by the Minister of PPPA I Gusti Ayu Bintang Darmawati Puspayoga.

After the event, the Regent Giri Prasta expressed his gratitude to the Minister of PPPA Bintang Puspayoga for the crowning of Badung as a Child-friendly Regency in 2021. “We have the principle of carrying out his direction, where Badung gets the Nindya Category. This is a wonderful thing. Category Number 1 is Main, Number 2 Nindya, Number 3 Madya and Number 4 Pratama. From the beginning, we in Badung Regency have implemented the garbasari program, where since the time in the womb the child has received attention to prevent malnutrition/stunting. And astungkara in Badung Regency is not stunted,” he explained.

All parties are reminded to always provide protection, attention and guidance to children in daily life, because children are the first generation of the nation’s successors towards advanced Indonesia. “Children are the next generation of the nation to realize the true Indonesia-the great Indonesia,” he recalled.

For this reason, as the Regional Head, Giri Prasta gives extraordinary attention to children. One of them is by providing adequate educational support facilities, such as laptops for grade 5 and 6 elementary school children. Because this is one of the educational support systems up to the high school level. I think this is real evidence in realizing a child-friendly district. And even at the service office and village offices, we have room for children. This is a form of our readiness in Badung Regency.

Badung Regency has followed the direction of the central government to create a system that is used as an assessment indicator by related parties. “Once again, we thank you and of course we will be even more active and don’t let this ranking go down, because we are committed to pursuing the first level and I will do my best to show the identity of Badung Regency, that one day Badung must become a great district. and a winner,” he said.

The Minister of PPPA, Bintang Puspayoga, said that the fulfillment of the rights and special protection of children is the obligation and responsibility of the regional government so that its implementation needs to be monitored. “Protecting Indonesian children is the obligation and responsibility of all stakeholders and in this KLA evaluation process we want to see the extent of the responsibilities and obligations of all these stakeholders in protecting children in their respective areas,” he said.

Evaluation of KLA that has been carried out in previous years, Bintang Puspayoga said there are 24 KLA indicators, which reflect the implementation of 5 substantive clusters of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, which include: Cluster 1, Fulfillment of civil rights and children’s freedom; Cluster 2, Fulfillment of children’s rights to a family environment and alternative care; Cluster 3, Fulfillment of children’s rights to health and welfare; Cluster 4, Fulfillment of children’s rights to education, use of leisure time and cultural activities; and Cluster 5, Special protection for children.
