Hotel managers in Bali no longer have ways and strategies to survive this seemingly endless pandemic. Many times, the government’s discourse which is expected to stimulate tourism, so as to be able to grow the economy of the community, always has obstacles, so it is canceled. The government, with its policy of opening tourism, continues to push and pull as if it gives hope, but in reality it doesn’t. This clearly makes the tourism industry managers do not have certainty, whether to survive, half closed or all closed.
Director of Ashyana Candidasa Beach Resort, Wayan Kariasa said the government should provide certainty for tourism managers to run their businesses. All the policies that are the conditions for receiving visits have been carried out properly and with discipline, but all are in vain. Carrying out a new era of life, implementing health protocols, Cleanliness, Health, Safety, and Environment Sustainability (CHSE) certifications, participating in vaccinations and supporting green sona for the Ubud, Sanur and Nusa Dua areas to streamline the Work From Bali (WFB) program. “All these programs are just hope, because they are hampered by other policies,” he said, Thursday (22/7).
For example, the government’s policy of extending the implementation of emergency Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM) for the next five days. This policy actually makes tourism more sluggish. “We really support the health interests, which are more important than economic interests, where the Balinese economy is still focused on the tourism sector. Well, hopefully in the next five days the Covid-19 cases in Bali will be handled properly and there will be no spikes, so that PHP (Employment Termination) will not be carried out again for all of us,” he said resignedly.
The chairman of the Hotel and Restaurant Association of the Republic of Indonesia (PHRI) Karangasem added that in several media he had read that on July 26 there would be easing with the Level 1,2,3 and 4 system. the community can also prepare better and more maturely. “We ask not to be PHP again. If that happens, we seem to have raised the White Flag. Because, Bali Island, which can be said to be small and can be managed with good synergy, should not be divided between districts and cities. In fact, the most important thing is that people go in and out of Bali, which must be optimized for supervision, checking and firm action if there are things that violate,” he said.
According to him, this is important to protect Bali from the spread of Covid-19. Instead, it is used as an opportunity to gain fortune by irresponsible elements, thus harming the economy and the wider Balinese community. If the Level system is to be implemented by the central government, hopefully Bali can enter Level 2, so that the Balinese economy can move and revive, both essential and non-essential with clear regulations while remaining disciplined in the process. “The task force supervises, parses and provides disciplinary sanctions if a company or community violates the first, second and third warnings. This is what is important to us. People can wake up and not be stressed because of limitations, and on the one hand their needs to live are not met,” concluded the Chairman of the Indonesian Hotel General Manager Association (IHGMA) full of hope.
